Every car that pulls onto your lot this holiday season gives you about a minute of a driver's attention. Your signage decides what they do with it.
Most washes add a wreath and a "Happy Holidays" banner and call it done. That's festive, but it doesn't sell anything. Holiday signage works best when it looks seasonal and still has one job: getting drivers to join.
Map the Drive, Then Place the Signs
Walk your site the way a customer drives it, and give each stop a role:
- Street and entrance: Grab attention. Lead with one bold holiday membership message.
- Journey and promo signage: This is where decisions happen. Make the membership the easiest choice.
- Exit: Customers just saw a clean car. Remind them they could get that every week.
- Vacuum area: People linger here. It's the best spot for a longer message, a rack card or a QR code.
One Sign, One Message
A sign that tries to say five things says nothing. Keep each one to a single idea and a few words that can be read from a moving car. Use big type, high contrast and plenty of empty space. If a sign needs a paragraph, it belongs in a rack card instead.
Make Membership the Hero
Holiday décor gets attention, but membership should get the headline. Try messages that tie the season to the value of joining:
- "Salt season is here. Wash after every storm."
- "Give your car the gift that keeps on giving."
- "Clean for the holidays. Clean all winter."
If you're running a holiday first-month discount, put it right on the menu board so attendants can point to it.
Plan the Swap
Get holiday signs up the week before Thanksgiving. Then have a replacement ready for January 1, ideally a New Year message about starting the year with a clean car. Nothing says "no one's paying attention" like a Christmas banner in February.
